The tram in the foreground is one of the modern everday trams that are used all over Melbourne. Which are no where near as attractive as the one I painted a couple of weeks back. The first brown building to the right of the tallest in the photo with the spire on top is of significance to me.

I worked in that building for a number of years before I was had a family. It was then the head office of the ANZ Banking Group and I was working in the Personnel Department. It was a great place to work and the views from that building were terrific. Facing from that building towards where I took this photo is actually looking across Port Phillip Bay. The views across the city and the bays were fantastic.

Another noteworthy mention is that the two towers (that one and the one next to it) are called the Collins Place Towers and when they were built they were modelled off the Twin Towers in the USA of the fated 9/11 fame.

Melbourne Australia, Tram & City View
<media:text type="html">

Melbourne Australia, Tram & City View

This is another view of Melbourne taken from Princess Bridge looking back towards the top end of Melbourne.

Painted with the Opaque Acrylics.....I am really enjoying this brush at present and finding out just what it can do. The background was morphed using a blender brush.

At some point I want to do this painting again and use bright colours with reds in and let it be a really bold piece, but at present I don't really know whether I can do this in this programme. So maybe down the track you will see this pic again

And I love it!

It is a very cosmopolitan city with a wide variety of ethnic groups. You can eat out cheaply in Melbourne and try food from just about anywhere you can imagine.

The parks and gardens are as good as you will find anywhere else in the world,and it is also a great place for walking and bike riding.

The original photo for this painting was taken 12 months ago whilst doing the Yarra River Walk (The river in the photo is the Yarra River).

Painted using the Opaque Acrylic, then used camel oil cloner for the reflections, & the Tapered Gouach brush for fine detail.

I hope you enjoy my city!

Melbourne River View
<media:text type="html">

Melbourne River View

This is my city Melbourne. And I love it!

The search for our missing WWII soldiers has been talked about for years and when they started digging up the field and found things like a button or a military badge, everyone got excited.

The talk since then has been whether or not they should try and Identify more than 5000 men and exhume the bodies to return home. I've come to the conclusion that since these men fought together and died together and have been sleeping there now for such a long time, they should remain there and a special monument built.

Tolouse sent me a photo of the Cobbers Memorial in Fromelle in France, after we had been talking about it. I was keen to paint it. Now I've finally finished it as a tribute to our soldiers, and to Tolouse who has an ailing soldiers body but a heart as big as a lion's, and whose generosity at times has made me cry.

The sculpture "Cobbers" is by Peter Corlett of Melbourne. The sculpture is based on 3101 Sergeant Simon Fraser of 57th Battalion, a 40 year old Victorian farmer turned soldier who rescued many men from the battlefield, carrying a man of 60th Battalion. Later, Fraser, as a Lieutenant of 58th Battalion, was Mentioned in Despatches before being killed at Bullecourt on 12 May 1917. His name is recorded on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux.
This painting was done in oils. All hand painted, no autopainting at all.
"Lest We Forget"

Fromelle Soldiers..."Lest We Forget"
<media:text type="html">

Fromelle Soldiers..."Lest We Forget"

There has been a lot of news lately about the discovery of Australian soldiers mass burial site in Fromelle in France.

</media:text>

Proud Rooster

Proud Rooster

First attempt at layers. this took me many days before I believe that I got it right. I'm very pleased with the results on this one and thoroughly enjoyed the painting on the birds plumage.

Proud Rooster
<media:text type="html">

Proud Rooster

First attempt at layers. this took me many days before I believe that I got it right. I'm very pleased with the results on this one and thoroughly enjoyed the painting on the birds plumage.
</media:text>

Rooster

Rooster

My first attempt at using the layers function in the programme.
