Desert Dune 4x4

No EXIF data is available

Painted  using watercolour sketch.  Hit the stop button before the sketch part really got going.

I painted this one for my husband.  This is him four wheel driving up a sand dune in the desert country in Victoria.  We went away with a group of like minded people for a weekend there 12 months ago.  No one managed to get to the top of this dune even flooring the car.  But still the challenge was fun.  I was chief photographer and got some great shots.  A young guy in his early 20's got the closest to the top, but not without a number of very serious attempts.

I like the colour and composition of this one, but for me a sense of movement would have added to it, perhaps by drawing out the colours from the rear of the car using a blender or Sargent brush. I realise that you actually have sunlight in Australia, and unlike us here in the UK you get the chance to use fast shutter speeds, so I'm not blaming you for freezing the movement. It is just the car looks static, some swirls of dust coming up from the rear wheels would help. I'm sorry Hubby didn't make it to the top on this attempt, it looks like the brake lights are on which could cause a loss in momentum. Letting some air out of the tyres would have increased traction, but you would need to carry a petrol generator and compressor to reinflate perhaps, a foot pump would take all day.

Actually I think this photo was taken whilst he was still moving, but unsure now. Yes the tyres were deflated and we have an air compressor fitted to the car,  It is quite heavy sand.
