    Painted in Oils.

Photo used was by kind permission of Richard Calmes who does beautiful photography of dancers. You can view Richard's website by clicking on the link below.

Richard has told me the amazing story behind the dancer in the photo of how 12 months before this photo, she had a serious car accident.  She broke her pelvis, leg, foot and worst of all her neck vertebrae. The same one Christopher Reeves shattered in his horse accident.  After months of recovery and 2 operations to  fuse her vertebrae this photo was taken almost 1 year after her accident. The story he told me was of a most couragous and beautiful woman.

I hope you enjoy my painting.

being a typical male, and ex military to boot, I have to sheepishly admit that I actually admire ballet tremendously, and would not have to be dragged kicking and screaming to a performance, but please don't tell any of my mates down the pub, I have an image to uphold. Years ago I worked around the corner from the Ballet Rambert http://www.rambert.org.uk/home and I have seen some rehearsals, and quite frankly I was gobsmacked at the skill, artistry, and beauty. your image is a wonderful composition - well done!

This photograph and the story touched me deeply Dianne.

Your rendition of the photograph is beautiful and artistic, capturing the grace and beauty of the Ballet. The coulr is great too.

I can identify with the struggles this dancer must have gone through. I only broke my neck in a car accident, and had to have the vertebrae fused. I was strapped into a saddle like contraption for 8 months so I realise what courage and dedication she must have had to be back dancing in so short a time. Thanks so much for sharing this
