    Essentials 4

Just purchased Essentials 4.  Love the possibilities. In auto painting, "illustration", how do you stop or get rid of the horrible black rendering lines that appear at the end of the illustration process. I tried undo, the whole illustration started over.  I have tried waiting patiently to stop the process just before the black lines start.  No way to guage the timing. It seems these lines only appear in Illustration mode. Help!

Welcome to our forum fredlamb, first may I congratulate you on your impeccable taste, you have joined a forum without misery, with purpose, and if you come along for the ride you will pick up speed at an alarming rate. Art is meant to be fun, and the folks on here are certainly that, with an eagerness to become better at art......you have been with us one day only, and you have clearly done some exploring, and found out that what you thought was an illustration mode was perhaps a programmers sense of humour, we can do a sketch in seconds in real life, a drawing takes longer still, a painting the same, but an illustration needs to be worked at the longest of all in my world. There you were lulled into a false sense of security, and suddenly the mad slasher struck as quick as a flash. All I can say is please don't be disappointed with the programme, it is superb, but like most things not absolutely perfect, and as new versions come out hopefully these little niggles will be ironed out, and if I am wrong, and the programmer intended it that way, as I said earlier art is meant to be fun. We look forward to your first postings, to see fredlambs view of the world around you - that way we all get to travel by proxy, and learn from each others techniques.

     Welcome Fred.

As you have stated, the black lines you are seeing are a part of the "Illustration" auto-painting "effect". Aside from stopping the Photo Painting towards the end of the image, which you have mentioned is a bit tricky, there is no simple way to get rid of the black lines. So if you are liking the effect you are getting with the "Illustration" settings aside from the black lines, how would you expect to be able to control whether or not the black lines would appear? Would it be a separate illustration setting? Or would it be a check box to control whether or not they appear at the end? What would make the most sense to you?

    Thanks
    Jennifer

I just discovered this tonight myself. I would stop the process before it stops itself. But, I'm silly that way. Of course, depending on image detail, this process could have different time lengths. Perhaps, it will be offered in a future version?

I personally think it would be good if there was a tick box to give the option of lines or not. I have used illustration setting to really good effects on some images and the black lines have actually been an asset

Just as a note. I was playing with this process and noticed that it makes 8 passes before adding the lines in. At least that's how it worked for me. You can probably get a good idea after the 8th pass begins as to when to stop the process.
