    Practice Pieces: Ghostly Sails

Another exercise with a vintage image, this time of sailboats. I photopainted the background with the loaded palette knife, then cloned in the sailboats with hard cloner & spray:

That's nice, but I always want more color in my work Big Smile so I came up with this version:

I used a similar process, only with an Impressionist-color background, and some additional interim steps. To be honest, I can't really remember everything I did to get this version, and I probably couldn't duplicate it if I tried! But I love the color and dreaminess of this piece.

Just bumping this up - I'm in a different time zone from most of you and I guess it got passed over Smile.

Hi Jan, I did reply to your previous posting and said how much I liked it, particularly the Impressionist colour version.   I also enquired whether you autopainted or handpainted the loaded palette background.....

Cindy ~ Thank you so kindly; and forgive my whining - your previous message must have gone missing, as I didn't see it  Hmm

I did all hand-painting in these two versions. The only autopainting was the underpaintings (I did several) to get the source images from which I hand-painted these.

Sophipd07 ~ Thank you very much, and it's nice to meet you!

What lovely paintings you've created Jan, I think they're both great pieces, and I also love sailboats.

    Keep the good work coming
