Hello all,

As I had posted earlier, we have been working on a fix for this issue. As you know, a change that Apple made in its 10.6 release broke our brush drawer and it required an extensive amount of development work to fix it. We are just completing our testing of the patch and we are hoping that it will be available to all of you within the next week. I will post a link as soon as it is available.

Thanks very much for working on this for us all. However, I downloaded it and installed it, but I can't open Painter Essentials 4, as the message comes back that I have exceeded my evaluation time. I was never able to evaluate the program, and now the only option is to buy it. Can you tell me if there's a way to still obtain the right to evaluate it before buying it? Please advise. Thank you.

i've downloaded and install the patch. it works great until i switch the screen to another spaces and back to the space where i open painter essential application. the brush drawer is gone like before i installed the patch. any idea why?

We are not able to duplicate the problem that you are describing.
Is anyone else also encountering this issue with spaces?

I'm having the same problem. If I open PE4 in one space, switch to another space (or even just show all the spaces - not even switch) and then switch back, my brush drawer is gone.

I have the same problem, and I'm not entirely sure why it's happening (end-user here, not a programmer), but you can get around it by switching from the Drawing & Painting tab to the Photo Painting tab. In the Photo Painting tab, there's an option to change your brush in the Auto-Painting palette; click on the Brush option, and it'll bring up the brush drawer. Then you can switch back to the Drawing & Painting tab, and the brushes are back to (mostly) normal.

It doesn't work the opposite way around (switching from the Photo Painting tab to Drawing & Painting), and it's a little tedious to have to do that every time you go back and forth between Painter to another program, but at least it makes the brush drawer accessible until they work out that bug in the patch.

Since we are unable to duplicate this issue on our systems here, I am wondering if one of you can provide me with step by step instructions for how you are encountering this issue so we can try and duplicate the problem.

Can you also clarify for me whether or not the issues was occurring before you installed the patch or if it only started happening after the patch was installed?

Hi Jennifer, thanks for your effort trying to repro this behavior.  It's great to see this level of support on the forum, from you and the Corel team!  

I too am experiencing the issue as described above, while running Snow Leopard 6.1 with your latest patch.  For me, I start Painter Essentials, select "Start Drawing & Painting" from the initial dialog box at start-up.  Once running, the brush drawer works fine until I switch to another application (E.g., Safari, check Mail).  When switch back to Painter Essentials, the brush drawer is no longer visible (similar to the pre-patch issue with Snow Leopard).  As noted above, then switching to the Photo Painting tab, then selecting the "Brush" button in the Auto-Painting drop down, then going back to the Drawing & Painting tab, brings back the brush drawer.  Please let me know if there is anything further you would like tried or additional info that would help, to better understand this issue.

BTW, this only started happening after the patch was installed.  Prior to the patch being installed, the brush drawer would not work consistently -- so it's tough to know what may have occurred WRT this behavior, prior to the patch.

Hi Jennifer,

I also experience the same as 'emasters' and even if I click onto the desk top but when I return to PE4 all I've been doing is clicking on photo painting and that opens the paint/brush draw.  You might also like to know that my dock (which I have vertical on the left of the screen) changes color from it's original black to gray, as if it's apart of the PE4 program... perhaps that's normal though!

But, all in all I'm over the moon that I can now pick brushes and paint.

ok, i solved my crash by launching the application while holding shift pressed (reset to factory default)

it is now working and my brush drawer seems to work (even after switching workspace)
