Hi Toulouse, Could you post a slightly larger image? I'm having trouble making it out. Thanks

I'm sorry about that, the original is huge, but by the time I had halved it time and time again to fit the size restrictions on site I ended up with a postage stamp. Do you know of any way round this problem? Surely if we are sharing our work with each other a 1024x768 image would be far better, or at the very least a 640x480. How can we learn from each others technique if we are restricted to such tiny images? Even when there are such severe size restrictions, perhaps there could be a system where we could send a larger image in response to an e-mail request from a member - comments or suggestions invited!!!!

     Is that better?

Yes, that size is good. I really like the colors. I feel that the owl could use a bit more definition, perhaps by using a little Soft Edge Cloner on the edges and feathers. Nice capture! How close were you when you flushed the bird?

Hello, I like your picture very much, I agree with Vegas George about the owl needing a little more definition to make it stand out of the background. I strongly agree with you about size restrictions and that 1024x768 would be far better.

Thanks Anne for your feedback, both you and Vegas George would prefer more definition in the owl, so I have reworked the image, and reposted it. I surrender, I am outnumbered lol. I sincerely hope you both like the revised version, the whole point in posting is to get input and suggestions, I have listened to you both. I would rather be criticised than praised anyday, I know that isn't very politically correct these days, but I want to learn and improve, and criticism and/or possible suggestions are most welcome.

About the size restrictions, what format are most of you saving your images to for uploading? I just did some tests and I can get a 1024x768 image under 128k when I save it as a jpeg and the quality is still fine for on-screen viewing.

    Thanks

Thank you Jennifer, you are quite right! I have always saved my jpegs at the highest possible quality, so after reading your posting I did some tests myself, and lo and behold photoshop told me my 1024x768 image was now way within the size restrictions, all I had to do was save at a medium quality instead, and hey presto. Please consider yourself a light in my time of confusion - if I can get some chocolates inside an e-mail somehow you will be suitably rewarded.

Yes! There we go, that's BEAUTIFUL! I am so jealous of your owl painting now. I had no idea that the colors in the feathers would "pop" like that. Really nice!

thanks for your comments, the background was totally auto-paint using impressionist, the bird which is a barn owl was given impressionist random strokes at a much smaller brush size, then feathered, selected, copied and pasted into the background.
