    Disappearing Tutorials

I've been learning from the tutorials and now they have disappeared. I've reinstalled the software, called technical support and they could not help. I use Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron 1505. Does anyone know how I can get the tutorials back?

Deborah, I am hoping that you can provide me with a bit more information so I can better understand the problem you are encountering. By "tutorials" are you refer to the video tutorials? How are you trying to access them? Were you accessing them from the "Welcome" screen or from the Help Menu? And what is happening now when you select "Video Tutorials..." from the Help Menu?

    Thanks
    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

Yes, I do mean the video tutorials. I had accessed them from the welcome screen and also from the help menu. When I try to access them now from either place, I only get a blank window.

    Thanks,

    Deborah

Deborah, can you try something for me? Can you "launch" Painter Essentials, but while you are launching it can you hold down the "Shift" key on your keyboard? You should see a dialog asking you "Do you want to restore Painter to its factory default state?" Please select "Yes". Once the application has launched, let me know if you are able to see the tutorials again......

    Thanks
    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

I've tried that several times to no avail.

    Thanks,

Deborah, sorry, I didn't realized that you had tried that already so I figured it was worth a try :-)

We are going to see if we can duplicate your problem here on a Windows Vista Home Premium system, and if so, if we can find a solution for you. I will get back to you as soon as I have more information.

    Thanks
    Jennifer

Deborah, sorry, I have a couple of more questions that will help us better understand the problem. Did you install Painter Essentials 4 from a CD, or did you download and install it from the internet?

I know that you already told us that you get a "blank window", but does that mean that you get the window that says "Video Tutorials" in the title bar and the list of tutorials down the side (but that when you select a tutorial the area of the window that plays the movie is blank)? Or, is the entire window blank?

    Thanks
    Jennifer

    Re: Disappearing Tutorials

    Hi Jennifer,

I ordered the CD as I have Dial up. The screen that opens says "Video Tutorials - Corel Painter Essentials 4' in the upper left-hand corner. The remainder is a blank white screen. I appreciate so much what you are doing for me.

    Thank you very much,

    Deborah

    Re: Disappearing Tutorials

Deborah, we are not able to re-create the problem that you are experiencing, but we are wondering if it is a problem with the Flash player on your computer. We are wondering if uninstalling and re-installing the Flash Player would fix the issue. To uninstall your Flash Player, can you go to your Start Menu and select the Control Panel. Then depending on what "view" of the Control Panel you have there should be a link that says something about Uninstalling or Removing Programs. From there, please choose to remove the Flash Player. Then, launch Painter Essentials and select to "Watch Videos". You should be prompted to install the Flash Player. Install the Player and see if that fixes the issue that you are having.

     Let me know what happens......

    Thanks
    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

I uninstalled the Flash Player and launched Painter Essentials, then selected Waatch Video's. Unfortunately there was no prompt to reinstall the Flash Player. The blank screen continues...Where do I go to reinstall the Flash Player?

    Thank,

    Deborah

    Hi Deborah:

The Adobe Flash Player can be installed from this location:

    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BONRN

    Hope that helps!

     Deborah,

Sorry, we are still unable to re-create the problem you are encountering. I hesitate to suggest this, but would you be willing to try uninstalling and re-installing Painter Essentials 4 to see if that will rectify the problem?

    Re: Disappearing Tutorials

    Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for the link to the flash player. I've reloaded it. But there was no change. I still get the blank screen. I have uninstalled Painter Essentials and reinstalled it. There is still no change. Could the problem be in the CD itself, a faulty disk perhaps? I don't have this problem with any other of my programs that use training videos

    Thanks,

    Deborah.

    Re: Disappearing Tutorials

Okay. Let's try a couple of more things.

First, let's check to see that the movies are installing on your computer. Can you browse to:
    C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Painter Essentials 4\Resources\videos
and confirm that the FLV files are there?

If they are they, can you open Internet Explorer, and browse to this location on your computer:
    C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Painter Essentials 4\Resources\HTML\Videos
From there, can you drag and drop the "VideoPlayer.swf" file onto your IE Window? Please let me know if that works for you......

    Thanks
    Jennifer
