White Archangel - a common name for the white dead nettle a member of the mint family

Yesterday I visited the midland railway centre, and needless to say took loads of shots of gleaming steam trains, but I always keep an eye open for the unusual, and amidst a pile of corroding metal parts in a junk area, there was a single wild plant surviving amongst all this decay, the various colours of the rusts and corrosion were glorious, yet the plant seemd to survive with no visible means of sustenance, such is the tenacity of weeds. I did this one as a detailed watercolour using the camel oil brush, then switched to effects esoterica - and used the van gogh brush, followed by image luminance texture to make it have an almost impasto effect.

The colours on the metal have worked really well. Personally I think I would like to see the plant having a different finish to make it stand out more from the metal, perhaps making it more natural looking. I still find it a striking image however, well done Toulouse.

Thanks Anne - you make a valid point, and if it had been a more exotic plant rather than a mere weed I would probably have done exactly as you suggest, but for the time being I went for a concept, but may rework another time in another style.

I love nature taking over our polluted areas. this hopefully is a sign of nature starting to reclaim the area.
