    layers question

    hi, all.

     newbie here.

does anyone know if there are blending options in painter essentials akin to photoshop (overlay, multiply, etc.)?  if not, is it available in full blown painter x?

i'm asking because i'm using it to colour comics, and don't wish to obscure the line art.

    cheers.

    Re: layers question

Welcome! Painter Essentials 4 does not have merge modes for its layers, but yes, they are available in Painter X. Just curious, can you tell us a bit more about how you use the merge modes when doing your comics?

    Thanks
    Jennifer

    Re: layers question

thanks for the welcome!  and thanks for the reply.

anyway, i usually use photoshop to colour my comics, so i place the line art on the uppermost layer and set that layer to 'multiply'.  this essentially makes all the white areas transparent and the black areas opaque as i colour on the layers below.

i've been asked to colour my comics in a more 'painterly' fashion, so that's why i fired up painter essentials the other night.  since it doesn't support layer blending, my work around has been selecting all the white from my line art in photoshop, deleting it, and exporting the file as a PSD with a transparent background to PE3.

    hope that answers your question.

i think i might have to break down and upgrade...ah, well...

any other comics colourists in the house?
