Extreme lag in Essentials 5 OS X 10.11 El Capitan

My apologies in advance if this has been covered already, I searched and did not find anything.  I just installed Essentials 5 on an Early 2015 Macbook Pro 13" model running OS X 10.11 El Capitan and I am using the Wacom Intuos Art model tablet.  I am getting extreme lag with every single stroke.  It's so bad that I can make a few quick strokes, take the pen away and literally watch the strokes draw themselves on the canvas.  I'm not exactly sure whats going on because Photoshop and Mischief work fine.  Any ideas?  Thanks

  • Do have the same problem if you do not use your tablet?
Try and disconnect the tablet and see it is still doing it with your mouse only.

I just tried and everything works fine without the tablet. i guess maybe I need to wait for an updated El Capitan Wacom driver?

Well at least you know now what is causing the problem.
I am not familiar with tablets. I had one many years ago and was not satisfied with how it worked.
If I was to get one I would look at Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

  • I'm having the same problem with Painter x3, and I tried the newest version also, and El Capitan. I don't believe the problem is with the wacom drivers [there's a new one as of yesterday, by the way] because other programs like photoshop work fine in El Capitan and a wacom companion (what I use).
  • I'm having the same problem. I was excited to see the new Wacom drivers published but they didn't solve it for me, and the intuos works fine with everything else.

Read these notes on this page- who knows when Corel will get it fixed.

Painter Update - New Apple OS X 10.11 AKA El Capitan
As you know, Apple released its new OS X 10.11 - AKA El Capitan today. Our top priority is to ensure that you always have a great experience with Painter, and while the Painter team is diligently working on certification testing, we wanted to make our Mac users aware that there is potential for some disruptions with Painter on the new OS.

We strongly encourage you to experiment with the new OS on a test system and not your production system.

We're working on identifying and fixing any potential issues and will have more news to report shortly. Rest assured, Painter 2016 will be supported on OS X 10.11.

Stay tuned to the Painter Factory for further updates and thank for your patience!!

    Happy painting!

  • Have you noticed any improvements?
    I'm having the same problem.
  • Same issue.. hopefully an update soon..
  • There's a simple fix that works. It's changing a brush setting in the preferences. I'm not at the computer now and don't recall exactly what the setting is but I'll post it later. Could figure it out yourself thought. There are only a few options and it's just a one click thing.
  • Hey, I know this is old now, and I have recently updated to macOS Sierra 10.12.1 and ran into THE SAME problem. But to possibly help anybody else who may have ran into this problem I found a solution.

Go up to Painter Essentials > Preferences > Interface > Under "Type Cursor"

It gives you a few options. "Enhanced Brush Ghost" was selected. As soon as I selected either "Iconic" or "Single Pixel" the problem went away immediately.

    Hope this helps people.

    Your welcome.

This was bothering me like crazy. And I use program for my job but this lag was making it completely unworkable. Clip Studio Paint (Manga Studio 5) used to do the same thing for me but not nearly as bad.
  • In reply to Robert Blackadar:

Thank you for your QA skills and providing this COMPLETE workaround. Was about ready to dump Painter. Thank you again.
  • In reply to cjohnfargo:

No problem. I'm glad it helped.

    Hi Robert
I had a similar comparability issue with OS. 10.12 Sierra
However, I used the disk I received with the Bamboo product

Corel advised in their release notes :
Support for Wacom® products: Corel Painter Essentials 4 supports the entire Wacom product line, including the Graphire® pen tablets, the Cintiq® 21 UX interactive pen display, the Intuos®3 pen tablet, and the Wacom® 6D Art Pen.

However, I have issues with the installation and now Corel said "Painter Essentials 4 is not designed for Mac 10.11"

Do you have a link where I can download safely the "Painter Essentials 4",then I can probably update the setup you have mentioned above
    Thanks, Dror
